Drift maps are made specifically for sideways driving - tight mountain passes (touge), multi-tiered drift parks, slick parking lots, downhill courses and airport runways repurposed for drifting. Most also come with wet-weather variants, slalom markers and custom starting spots.
Good drift maps work in tandem with drift-tuned vehicle mods and user-made handling files. Excellent touge passes feature 40-100 corners all flowing together in one long stretch with well-designed elevation changes that challenge the driver to maintain their drifts through each transition.

Base handling can drift, but it isn't ideal. Most drift maps work best with a free drift handling mod that reduces grip and smooths out transitions.
What is a touge?
"Touge" is a term used to describe a particular style of mountain pass racing that developed in Japan. These roads are tight, twisty, technical and often downhill. Touge maps recreate this style with narrow roads and upwards of 50 corners per run.
